That’s a question we are asked frequently, typically by parents of children requiring a high level of support. And it’s understandable that parents ask this question. Many existing housing options have built in limitations on who they are able to serve.
Our own son is in a wheel chair and, believe it or not, some group and AFC homes aren’t set up to accommodate non-ambulatory individuals. OASIS provides the opportunity for families and individuals with mental illness, intellectual and developmental challenges to co-create their own alternative housing. As co-creators families can design sustainable solutions that work best for their adult children in an environment that fosters interdependence, personal growth and lasting friendships.
So…my answer to the question “How inclusive is OASIS?’ is
“How inclusive do you want to make it?”
